I should label this next session 12.5.2.   We spent some time at our zoo and I really wanted a great silhouette shot at the aquarium.  I discovered quickly that there were a lot of variables in a busy dark aquarium   The varies lighting at each exhibit, moving exciting children, and waiting for that magical aquatic experience with the animal.  It quickly got frustrating because my vision and photos were not aligning.  But in the end I have two favorites.   And the jellyfish are very colorful and a favorite of my oldest daughter.   So we were able to capture a memory.

This is my first photo session with all my babies together.  My submission is a day late.   I had to wait to include our newest member of the family. We got to take a peak through a ‘window’ to view our baby yesterday and we had mark the event by including the little one in this month’s photo shoot!

I am so thankful for this project!   It is hard to squeeze in photo sessions.  But now we have a keep sake.

So to challenge myself this month, I picked up my camera as my sweet two year old dove into her hot chocolate on a frigid day. Her hair wasn’t perfect, the house was a mess, she still was in her pajamas, she was making a mess, all reasons that would have left it to another cell phone moment, but it turned out all too sweet. Just a little girl enjoying an extra sweet treat on a cold bitter day.

I spent a morning with my sister and her husband taking photos this cold January.  My sister is an animal advocate and works at the Nebraska Humane Society.  Their furbabies make up their family.   After an hour outside in the cold we decided to go inside and warm up.   This is by far my favorite photo.   Their lazy pug laying on my sister, their loyal German shepherd by their feet, and the love that they have for each other.  I am not exactly what sure what it is about the photo that warms my heart so much.  It could be the ‘at home’ feeling, the loving look, or the cuddle party.  It could just be that I feel as though I have caught everyone at that one moment of being a family.

I have been a personal endorser of the Ergo.  When I was pregnant I refused to purchase a carrier (not wrap) that lasted us for a few months.  I am thrifty and practical and everything I saw on the market never came near that.

Finally a friend of mine told me about the Ergo and how it wasn’t sold in our state but you could purchase it on their website.   It took me a long time to press the purchase button on something I couldn’t touch or try out.

But I never once regret it.  I used the Ergo everyday.  I would walk to the grocery story.  I would take her on walks to loose my baby weight.  And the big plus was that I used it 100% as a stroller.   It was so much easier to store in my car than a stroller and easy for both of us in a store.   I felt like I found the best product ever. I would tell everyone about it and even buy it for my extra special mommas.

So when I saw they were have a design contest, I could not resist.   I wanted to design dozens of them.  But the one I wanted to design the most was inspired by furniture where each piece is painted a bright color.   It was perfect.   Colors and development on an Ergo!

The primary colors are in the main pack of the Ergo.  And the secondary colors are on the straps.  It could have faded sides and folds on the canvas like fabric of the ergo and complementary colors for the stitches.  How much fun would it be to be taking a walk and say ‘what color is THIS?’  or ‘what color is THAT’.   And than find other colors around that color!

Last night I had a late night at work and had to drop the sitter off way past dinner time. And as I drove home all I could think was that I could stop and grab something for the family instead of going home and spending more time over the stove.

I finally remembered we had some spaghetti noodles and sauce. We didn’t have any meat or garlic bread or any thing to add to the meal. So I got home and started the noodles. By the time dinner was ready we were all hungry and ready for a good meal. We all sat at the table. Quietly and peacefully we enjoyed a simple meal together as a family. My husband read a book and my girls shoveled in the noodles with all their coordination skills they could use. And we were so hungry we ate the entire meal with no left overs.

As I sat there and watched my family, I realized I was thankful we created this challenge with our family. That if I would have stopped and got something, we would all be eating something different. We would all be finishing and eating at different times.

Maybe eating at home and making our own meals isn’t about the wallet and weight after all. Even though we are watching that too. But it seems like I am learning more about my family by preparing meals than I would have ever imagined.
